1 Why Voicebox?

Voicebox isn’t just Portland’s premier karaoke lounge — it’s a catalyst. Where else can you mix your best friends, favorite songs, unique saké cocktails, and incredible service and come up with the best night of your year?

Our six private suites are perfect for all kinds of events, from a small gathering of friends to a buy-out of the full space. The next time you want to get a group together without the hassle of crowds, let us take care of every detail right down to the food and drinks.

Gathering with friends in a private suite is more than just about a better karaoke experience, too. It’s about the transformative power of group song. Every night our guests form new stories they’ll tell for years. The best Voicebox parties usually peak at that moment when you learn something new about an old friend or, even more surprisingly, the moment when you learn something new about yourself.

Let us show you why a night at Voicebox is an experience you could have nowhere else.

3 Technology

You’re the KJ at Voicebox!

When we started Voicebox, we couldn’t find software that would give our guests the excellent experience we demanded. So we built our own from scratch to make the song library easy to search, easy to update with the latest songs, and easy for you to manage from our custom remote control – or the convenience of your smart phone. Visit vbsongs.com on your phone to see how it works.

At Voicebox you manage your own song queue, choosing from our incredible selection and watching as your song moves to the top. You can even use our online song search and playlist builder to save the codes for your favorite songs and get the party started right away.

Every suite is equipped with a flat-screen TV, two mics (for duets or duels, you be the judge), excellent speakers, light dimmers, pitch adjustment, and other fun gadgets like the 18th century musical innovation known as the tambourine.

4 First Time Tips

  1. Choose a song you have an emotional connection to, not necessarily one you think you ought to sing. If you like the song and it has meaning for you, this will come across and you will make a better connection with your friends in the room.
  2. Your main focus in singing is telling a story. Spend some time with the lyrics and get an idea of what the song is about. You will make a better connection with the group if you know what emotions you want to portray in your performance.
  3. Focus the energy on your friends. If you need to look at the monitor for lyrics, don’t keep your attention there the entire time–look up and at the group as often as you comfortably can.
  1. Eye contact is important. If it’s uncomfortable to make contact for very long, scan the group. Looking at different parts of the room every few seconds will make everyone feel included in your performance.
  2. Don’t obsess on the mechanics of singing. Your friends would much rather hear a good story teller with a less-than-perfect delivery than a really good voice with no connection to the song or audience.
  3. Last but not least, have fun. The more comfortable you look (even if you don’t feel comfortable on the inside), the more the group will root for you and the less likely they are to notice any less-than-perfect moments.
  4. Don’t strain your range! Use Voicebox’s key-shift feature to drop or raise the music into a key that works for you.
